Athletics at King’s is taught across Key Stage 3 in summer Physical Education lessons as boys get to enjoy and experience a selection of sprints, middle and long distance runs; hurdles, high jump and long jump; discus, shot and javelin as part of their curriculum. At Key Stage 3 & 4 the boys are able to pursue their athletics in Games afternoons complemented by lunchtime and after school practices.
Boys from Years 7 to 11 are then afforded the opportunity to represent the school at a large selection of fixtures against some of the best schools in the north west. We also host the annual King’s Relays meeting, and we use the state of the art athletics track at Macclesfield Leisure Centre for both this meeting and the Macclesfield and District Championships.
In the ESAA English Schools’ track and field cup we enter teams at Juniors and Inters level and reached the Grade A final in last year’s event at Robin Park, Wigan. Several boys have represented Cheshire in the County Championships and on occasion some of our boys have gone on to compete at the National Championships at Gateshead.
Athletics enjoys a high profile at the school as both a curricular and extra-curricular activity and there are a large number of PE and academic Staff involved in the safe and enjoyable delivery of the sport at both participation and elite level.
