King’s Pre-School is very much the start of a child’s learning journey and is significantly different from ordinary nursery care: children experience a stimulating learning environment with all the benefits of a ‘big school’.
Each child’s happiness is at the heart of all that we do and dedicated teachers encourage learning through play, whilst also beginning phonics and numeracy programmes. Qualified teachers ensure that the emphasis is firmly on fun, but that children also achieve the expected level of progress and development or, indeed, exceed it.
Children flourish in small classes with caring and experienced teachers. We offer a curriculum based on, but going beyond, the national requirements. Topics explored are adapted to the interests of the children and great care is taken to differentiate according to the needs of individuals.
Outdoor learning & Forest School
We believe that everything that can be learned inside the classroom, can also be learne outside. All our Pre-School, Reception and Year 1 pupils have access to both indoor and outdoor classrooms: and lots of learning with happen outdoors, whatever the weather! Our pupils will also enjoy plenty of exciting 'trips' and and welly-walks to local parks, museums, the library, a farm, and other places of interest.
We also have out own fabulous Ginkgo meadow and woodland area, where children enjoy Forest School days involving nature walks, pond-dipping, bug-hunting and checking on residents in the Bug Hotel, toasting marshmallows, sketching what we observe and even cooking lunch on a BBQ! Our children love the active, hands-on approach that we take - we know it stimulates learning and is a lot of fun, too.
Before children join us, we offer a number of free 1 hour settling in sessions. Parents and children will be invited in to familiarise themselves with the environment, meet our staff and other children, and ask any questions.
Flexibility for families
In terms of the flexibility needed by busy parents, we offer part-time or full-time places, plus the option of Breakfast, After-School and Holiday Clubs. Supervised care is available from 7:45am in Breakfast Club, through to 6pm in After-School Club. Both are run by our own staff and include activities and refreshments. Importantly, we allow children to start with us on a part-time basis and then build-up to full-time during the academic year, ready for the transition to Reception.
We are able to offer 15 hours free through the EYFS (Government's Surestart scheme) funding scheme, plus we accept many workplace vouchers.
