Athletics is a major sport for girls throughout the Summer term. The various athletics disciplines are taught during PE lessons and girls can also choose to participate and develop their skills further at Athletics club after school.
Athletes compete in the Macclesfield and District Athletics championships and the ESAA Schools’ Cup Athletics competition. A number of girls regularly qualify to represent Macclesfield at the Cheshire Schools Athletics championships and both Junior girls and Inter girls teams annually qualify for the Regional Finals of the ESAA School’s Cup competition.
Over the years there have been several successful athletes who have gained National qualifying standards at the Cheshire Schools Athletics Championships and have competed for Cheshire at the ESAA National Schools’ Track and Field Championships.
2019 - Junior and Inter Girls teams competed for Cheshire at NW Regional A Finals ESAA Schools Cup competition in Blackpool.
2019 - Claudia Rodriguez Martinez (100m), and Maddie Johnson (Javelin) represented Cheshire - Junior Girls at Mason Trophy Inter Counties competition at Alexander Stadium Birmingham.
2018- Inter Girls teams competed for Cheshire at NW Regional A Finals ESAA Schools Cup competition in Wigan.
2018 - Sophie Fletcher represented Cheshire in Minor Girls High Jump at Schools Inter Counties at Ellesmere Port.
2018 - Claudia Rodriguez -Martinez Junior Gilrs 100m at ESAA National Track and Field Championships at Alexander Stadium Birmingham.
2014 & 2015 – S Quinn - Inter Girls and Senior Girls Long Jump ESAA National Track and Field Championships at Alexander Stadium Birmingham and Gateshead.
S Quinn – U17 National Indoor Triple Jump Bronze.
2013 - K Hughes Junior Girls 800m - ESAA National Track and Field Championships Alexander Stadium Birmingham.
2010 – R Aslam Junior Girls Long Jump – ESAA National Track and Field Championships Alexander Stadium Birmingham
2009 – R Craigie Silver medal in Senior Girls 1500m at ESAA Track and Field National Championships at Don Valley Stadium Sheffield
In addition to attending after school Athletics practice, pupils are encouraged to join local Athletics club in order to improve their techniques and increase participation in competitive athletics.
