Junior Hockey is played throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms where we offer extra-curricular practices and competitive fixtures for Girls at U10 & U11 age groups against other primary schools, including invitational tournaments. We regularly enter County and National Tournaments for the U11 age groups in which we have been hugely successful.
In 2015 the U11 hockey team won the North Finals after progressing through the County and North West rounds, and in 2016 they again progressed through to the North Finals, an achievement at King’s that has never been done before. Boys have the opportunity to play hockey in their games lessons where they travel to the Cumberland Street AstroTurf and are regularly invited to attend U12 extra-curricular practices during the Autumn and Spring Terms. Extra-curricular practices are also held at the Fence Avenue.
Hockey is offered to all abilities with an emphasis on enjoyment, developing core skills and giving the pupils the opportunity to play a team sport for the school and also to compete against some of the best schools in the country. Specialist coaches are involved with Junior hockey along with other members of PE staff delivering coaching sessions. We have good links with clubs and encourage pupils to join clubs outside of school as well as attending hockey camps to develop their skills further to take with them into Senior school.
