Having recently celebrated 50 years of hockey at King’s the sport is continuing to grow. The new sports facilities on Westminster Road have given the school some of the best facilities in the North West: A new full sized floodlit pitch as well as a new half size pitch; both to the highest specifications. The new hockey pavilion was opened in September 2015 and is in constant use throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms.
The school runs teams from 1st XI down to U12 and are often competing in the latter stages of regional and national competitions. In 2016 the 1st XI won five games out of five in the prestigious Bath end of season festival, the U16’s progressed to the North finals in the indoor and the North West finals in the outdoor competitions, and the U15 went through the season winning all of their games apart from one.
As well as the superb facilities the school also benefits from a number of highly successful local and international coaches who are able to pass on their knowledge and expertise to the players.
The King’s pupils regularly achieve selection in regional representative hockey and the school have produced a number of exceptional players from schoolboy internationals to players performing at the very highest level of club hockey. The school takes great pride in the fact that so many former pupils continue to play the game that they were introduced to at school at all levels all through their adult life.
