We believe strongly in the development of the whole person through many and varied activities encouraging all girls to get involved.
Our unrivalled range of extra-curricular activities includes clubs and Societies that usually meet at lunchtime as some which take place after school or at the weekend. Popular activities include Zoology Club, Science Club, Writers’ Club, Film Club, Debating, Art Club, Jewellery Making Club, Philosophy Club, STEM Club, History Club, Taekwondo and Poetry By Heart, to name but a few. These are in addition to the many opportunities within Music and Drama, Sport, Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Sailing, Equestrian Squad and Outdoor pursuits.
Programme of Extra-Curricular Activities for 2018-19
Our thriving and dynamic House System gives girls opportunities to work with those in other year groups, helping to build our happy, caring and supportive atmosphere. An exciting range of events, from poetry competitions through to cake decorating competitions, are timetabled throughout the year, enabling our girls to help plan and organise events as well as show off their talents.
Each House has two House Captains, adding to the wide range of positions of authority available to girls. Each year group has a House Monitor to help co-ordinate events within year groups, offering further opportunities for girls to take on responsibility. Additionally, each form has a House Rep to work at form level in event organisation.
Programme of House Events
King’s has had a very successful Equestrian Squad for the last 7 years. Students have trained, competed and enjoyed pleasure rides; with some students competing as part of a school team in eventing, showjumping and dressage as part of the National Schools’ Equestrian Association (NSEA) national inter-school events. More information on the Equestrian Society available here
Our flourishing Sailing Club uses a range of boats, suitable for all ages and abilities, and meets throughout the Summer term on Saturday mornings at Redesmere. In addition, girls from Year 10 upwards are able to use Games lessons to hone their sailing skills. A five-day sailing expedition in Scotland each year allows pupils to experience sailing Dart catamarans, Laser Picos and Stratos, as well as enjoying windsurfing and cycling. RYA qualifications, Power Boat qualifications and Day Skipper may be undertaken. Pupils may also combine sailing interests with their Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and skills.
Trips and Expeditions
King’s Girls regularly enjoy excursions and field-trips to support and enhance the curriculum and the cost of many of these visits are included within the school fees.
Optional trips and holidays are normally available to both boys and girls and the majority take place at weekends and during school holidays. A list of trips available is published in September each year. Recent examples include Geography trips to Italy and Sicily, Croatia, Iceland and Norway, Latin trips to Greece, German exchanges, Language trips to Spain and France, Sports Tours to Barbados and Spain, as well as Global Challenge expeditions to India, Namibia, Bolivia and Costa Rica.
