King’s aims to achieve a successful fit between the school and its students. The admissions process is designed to allow the school to gain a realistic picture of the prospective student; and the student and parents to gain one of the school. Our main point of entry to the Senior Divisions (boys and girls) is at age 11: Year 7. A small number of places may be offered at older ages (for Year 8 - 10) subject to availability of places and a strong performance in the Entrance Examination.
If you would like your son or daughter to be considered for a place in Year 7 in September 2020 or 2021, please complete a Registration Form (see link below) which should be returned to the Admissions Department, together with a registration fee of £50. For 2020 entry, the deadline is Wednesday 8 January 2020.
External candidates seeking entry to our Senior Divisions are asked to complete an Entrance Examination. The date of our Entrance Examination is Friday 17 January 2020. The exams are set to standards normally expected of pupils of above average ability. Internal candidates who joined King's Juniors prior to or at the start of Year 5 are not required to sit the 11+ Entrance Examination and are offered assessed places for the Seniors.
Candidates registered for the entrance examination spend the whole day in school (lunch is provided) and complete three exam papers: Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning (VR).
When we receive the Registration Form for your son or daughter, we will automatically send you guidance on the Entrance Examination including details of the syllabus areas to be tested and sample past papers.
Interviews and Candidate References
An important part of the selection process for Senior Division entry is an interview with applicants and their parents. This is an opportunity for a conversation about their academic interests, hobbies and other activities and, of course, a further opportunity for you to visit the school. Interviews are usually with one of the following members of staff: the Headmaster, Deputy Head, Principal or Director of External Relations.
Interviews for Year 7 applicants will be held during w/c Monday 27 January 2020.
We will also contact your child’s existing school to obtain a reference in advance of the Entrance Examination. We wish to build as full a picture of your child as possible and use all of this information in addition to the entrance examination scores.
