Our aim is to create a stimulating and exciting environment where learning takes place through enjoyment.
Early years children in the Pre-School and Reception classes follow the statutory Foundation Stage Curriculum. This curriculum is divided into six areas of learning, each with a set of clearly defined stepping stones and early learning goals that most children are expected to achieve by the end of their Reception Year. These areas are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication, Language and Literacy
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Creative Development
Our Early Years children learn through planned and purposeful play and provision is made for the different starting points of each child. Communication, Language and Literacy and Problem Solving Reaasoning and Numeracy are taught on a daily basis. French and Music lessons also begin in the Early Years.
From Key Stage 1 onwards King's is not tied to the National Curriculum, as we are an independent school, so we offer a curriculum based on, but going beyond, the statutory requirements. Our curriculum is designed both to fulfill the academic requirements of pupils at this age and to promote an enviornment where children are encouraged to develop an awareness of their individual strengths. Most subjects are taught by the class teacher and great care is taken to provide differentiated experiences according to the needs of individuals. However, French, Music and Singing lessons are taught by specialist teachers within those areas.
