Pastoral

The priority at King’s is that children should be happy at school.  Furthermore, respect for each other and good manners set the tone for good behaviour.  The class teacher plays a key role in the pastoral system and is the day-to-day point of contact.

The Pastoral Head of the Junior School deals with matters of a pastoral nature.  The Vice-Principal has a specific overall responsibility for the welfare of the Year 3/4 children and the Principal of the Junior Division, has a similar responsibility for the Year 5/6 children.

We feel that it is vitally important that children develop confidence through a rich and varied education and through being given responsibility.

House System and Duties

All children belong to one of four houses – Adlington, Capesthorne, Gawsworth or Tatton with the aim of enabling children of all ages to have a common link.  Inter-house competitions are arranged throughout the year and children are awarded House Points for good behaviour and good work.  Individual children record House Points on their card and when it is filled (100 points) the child receives a Merit Certificate in Assembly. The House Points trophy is awarded weekly to the House that has amassed the most points in that particular week. A House Points Shield is also awarded annually.

Year 6 pupils act as Librarians, House Captains, Form Captains and Monitors, under the supervision of the Head Girl and Head Boy and their deputies.  This enables many children to experience the demands of positions of responsibility.  Playground Monitors help all pupils to mix and play. Sports Captains are also appointed in the major sports such as Football, Netball, Cross-country, Swimming, Cricket, Athletics and Rounders.

Each form has a Form Captain who acts as the voice of their peers at the half-termly School Council Meetings.

The Robert Batchelor Award is given publicly on a weekly basis to children who have shown particularly positive qualities.  Robert was a former Deputy Head Boy of the Junior School who died tragically at the age of 12 – his qualities of leadership, commitment, reliability, unselfishness and all-round application are remembered in this award.
