      Careers Advice

Careers advice has a high profile at King's: we start Careers advice as early as Year 7 via the PSHE programme, building up the provision each year.

During Year 10, all students take part in a week of Work Experience and undertake placements at a range of businesses including Astra Zeneca, local veterinary surgeries, hospitals, solicitors and charities. During Year 11 we focus on each pupil individually, using a personal interview to help them plan for Sixth Form and A Level choices.

Sixth Form students benefit from a full careers timetable which includes presentations and tutorial sessions on how to research university courses, write effective personal statements, use the UCAS Application system and how to prepare for interviews.

Our unique Apire Programme is designed take our Sixth Form students beyond the limits of the curriculum in order to challenge them academically and intellectually. The sessions are especially helpful for students facing the competitive Oxford and Cambridge admissions process or applying for highly competitive courses such as Law, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

      University Destinations

The vast majority of our students go on to Higher Education. We place a great deal of emphasis on preparing students for UCAS applications as well as applications to overseas universities. The high quality of guidance and preparation means that the majority of our students are successful in gaining offers from all the universities to which they apply and most gain entrance to their first choice of university.

The list of University destinations and courses of recent Sixth Form leavers will provide an overview of the range of subjects studied after King’s, including the full range of arts, business, language, scientific and humanities subjects.  Many students choose Russell Group and other research-dominated universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

      Gap Years and Apprenticeships

Some students choose to defer entry to Higher Education. A year in work, exciting travel opportunities or involvement in community projects – at home or abroad – bring many benefits. Through our comprehensive Careers Service, we can offer information and advice on Gap Years, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
