Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Digital Media

This course is equivalent to one A Level and offers a dynamic introduction to Digital Media, exploring its powerful influence on modern society. From television and film to podcasts, social media, and digital content creation, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide spectrum of media formats. Whether you're interested in producing viral videos, designing digital campaigns, or launching your own creative brand, this course equips you with the skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-paced media landscape. 

Designed to complement A Levels or vocational qualifications in subjects such as English, Art and Design, or Business, this course is designed to help prepare you to pursue a range of exciting pathways — from degrees in Digital Media, Media Production, Journalism, and Marketing, to apprenticeships and employment in creative and commercial industries.

Course Specification 

You’ll study between five and seven units in total, comprising three mandatory units and a selection of two to four optional units, depending on the size and structure of those chosen. The mandatory units are: 

• Media products and audiences  

• Pre-production and planning  

• Create a media product  

These core units will deepen your understanding of how media institutions operate and how they craft content to engage specific audiences. You’ll explore the full production cycle—from initial concept through to planning and execution—culminating in the creation of your own media product. Along the way, you’ll develop a range of transferable skills including communication, organisation, adaptability, and leadership. 

Optional units allow you to tailor your learning to your interests, with opportunities to explore areas such as journalism, audio production, social media and the wider marketing industry.
