Chess

In the Juniors, there are three lunchtime Chess Clubs: Year 2, Year 3/4 and a Chess Puzzle Club for the more advanced players. The Year 5/6 Chess Club takes place on a Friday after school. More advanced players from the lower years are also invited to attend, where their chess is further supported by players from the Senior Division.

The Juniors are multiple trophy and medal winners in both the AJIS Championships, and the UK Chess Challenge Cheshire and Shropshire Megafinals. Each year a number of players qualify for the UK Chess Challenge National Gigafinals, which represent the top 25% of chess players, by age group, in the UK. The Juniors are national finalists in The English Chess Federation Primary School Team Chess Challenge.

In the Senior Division, there are three lunchtime Chess Clubs: the school Chess Squad meets once a week and there are two Chess Clubs for casual players. In the league matches, the school fields a team of twelve, rotating the lower boards, ensuring that all squad members have a chance to play. In each match, at least a third of the team selection is made up of girls.

The Seniors are national finalists in The English Chess Federation Year 7/8 Team Chess Challenge. The Seniors are also multiple trophy and medal winners at the UK Chess Challenge Cheshire and Shropshire Megafinals. Each year a number of players qualify for the UK Chess Challenge National Gigafinals, which represent the top 25% of chess players, by age group, in the UK. The Seniors play in the Mixed Under 18s Cheshire Schools Mini Chess League.
