Our Bursary Fund

Our school was founded through philanthropy: in 1502, former Lord Mayor of London John Percyvale left an endowment in his will to establish a school in his home town of Macclesfield. Our school was born. Since then, the generosity of former pupils, parents and staff through gifts and endowments have led to the continued growth and success of the school. Many former pupils choose to pass on the benefits of their education at King's by donating to our Bursary Fund. One in 15 pupils at King's receive some kind of financial assistance and, for those children, their bursary is life-changing.

Thank you letter for donors

I am writing this on the final day of my time at King’s, before heading off to university. I joined King’s at age 11 on a bursary and would not have been able to attend without it. As I find myself looking back on my time at the school, I realise that attending has been nothing short of life changing – from singing in the choir at the Vatican and stage managing this year’s production of Bugsy Malone to receiving an offer to study Medicine at Cambridge (my mother would never forgive me if I didn’t mention it) I have been able to do so much at this school which I would not be able to do otherwise.

I would like to thank all of you who have donated to the bursary fund and made my time at this school possible. It probably seems fairly abstract, sending a cheque and forgetting about it for a little bit, but helping students come to this school is really life changing.  As part of my role as School Captain this year, I’ve been able to speak to other pupils who received bursaries and we are all in agreement that the King’s School is a friendly, caring community for its students: where teachers will work hard to see you succeed, and long-lasting friendships are made. No matter how fancy the new site this will not change, and my only hope is that more students will be able to experience it as I did.

With any luck, I will be moving onto the next step of my career in a few months. I aim to be a doctor – the idea of working for the community is something that is ingrained in every King’s student and the fact so many go on to a career of public service or philanthropy is a mark of pride. Whilst there are an incredible amount of deserving causes, I ask you to consider donating money to the bursary fund. It allows young students to achieve their fullest even when they otherwise couldn’t, and it has the potential to change a young boy or girl’s life – it certainly did mine.

Percyvale Legacy Society

We believe making a commitment to The King's School's future by leaving a legacy should be recognised and thanked during the donor's lifetime. We have therefore created The Percyvale Legacy Society, open to all those who have notified us of their intention to make a bequest to the school.

Members of The Percyvale Society will be invited to former pupil events and these occasions will enable the school to update members on its latest developments as well as providing the opportunity to rekindle, maintain and develop friendships. Members will  receive a silk Former Pupils' tie.

We recognise that a legacy is personal and private and you may choose not to be recognised through membership of the society, which we are happy to respect.
