Clubs & Activities

We believe strongly in the holistic development of our pupils - developing character and life skills alongside academic success. We offer a varied programme of activities and encourage all students to get involved.

Our unrivalled range of extra-curricular activities includes clubs and societies that usually meet at lunchtime and some which take place after school or at the weekend. Popular activities include: Art, Biology, Book Cafe, Chemistry, Chess, Drama, Dissection Club, Creative Writing, Debating, Electronics, Fantasy Gaming, Film Society, Gardening, Physics, Poetry by Heart, Philosophy, Science, Squash, STEM, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Writers' Club and Dance, to name but a few.

Our SOCS Platform provides pupils and parents with an overview of the range of activities available and timetables for each activity.

These are in addition many opportunities within Music, Drama, Sport, Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, Sailing, Equestrian Squad and Outdoor pursuits.

Trips and Expeditions

Our students regularly enjoy excursions and field-trips to support and enhance the curriculum and the cost of many of these visits are included within the school fees.

Optional trips and holidays are available to all students and the majority take place at weekends and during school holidays. A list of trips is published in September each year. Recent examples include Geography trips to Italy and Sicily, Croatia, Iceland and Norway; Language trips to Spain, Germany and France; Sports Tours to Australia, Barbados, Brazil and Spain, as well as Global Challenge expeditions to India, Namibia, Bolivia and Costa Rica.

Equestrian

We have had a very successful Equestrian Squad for the last 7 years. Students have trained, competed and enjoyed pleasure rides; with some students competing as part of a school team in eventing, showjumping and dressage as part of the National Schools’ Equestrian Association (NSEA) national inter-school events.

King's Sailing Club

Sailing

Our flourishing Sailing Club uses a range of boats, suitable for all ages and abilities, and meets throughout the Summer term on Saturday mornings at Redesmere. In addition, students from Year 10 upwards are able to use Games lessons to hone their sailing skills. A five-day sailing expedition in Scotland each year allows pupils to experience sailing Dart catamarans, Laser Picos and Stratos, as well as enjoying windsurfing and cycling. RYA qualifications, Power Boat qualifications and Day Skipper may be undertaken. Students may also combine sailing interests with their Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and skills.
