Amazon Manager Talks to King's Students

Now an Operations Pathways Manager for Amazon, Christopher left King’s in 2001 to study Motor Sports Engineering. He spent seven years in the Royal Navy as an aircraft engineer before studying for an MBA at Manchester and earning a management job with Amazon.

Christopher was speaking as part of a King’s Careers’ programme enabling young men and women to learn what life is really like beyond school and how to plan for their futures while choosing their GCSE and A Level courses.

He said: “There are so many different types of job. There are jobs like mine, in operations, where you need engineering skills, but also jobs in finance, IT and marketing, plus a whole host of roles for software and hardware engineers. It will be the same across so many new tech companies such as Facebook and Google and I am here to tell the young men and women about how to plan for their futures, the apprenticeships and graduate schemes available, and the many different entry points.”

The event was organised by King’s Careers & External Relations Officer, Caroline Foster, who said: “We want to give the students a perspective on a broad range of careers. Amazon is part of a growth industry offering a lot of employment opportunities particularly for our Maths, Physics and Computer Science students.

“Our programme of visiting speakers caters for all our pupils, with different skills and interests, providing a look at life in the working world. Other talks planned this term include one from a doctor and one from a Royal Marine.”

“I work with our students from Year 8 upwards. They have access to an online Careers’ programme, which enables them to research all the many pathways into different jobs. We want to inspire them as young as possible to take the right steps after school to get their dream job at the end.”
