Year 13 student, Annabelle, is handing over her Charity Committee reins this term, having smashed Sixth Form fundraising goals for The Christie, leaving a legacy of commitment, engagement and pride in the role for her successor.

In what has been the Sixth Form’s greatest academic year of fundraising to date, with almost £30,000 raised in total, Annabelle has fulfilled her role with immense dedication, enthusiasm, and success!
Together with her team of Charity prefects - Hannah, Edie, Jess, Elissa and Ella - Annabelle took a fresh approach to fundraising this year. With an emphasis on maximising student participation, the charity committee introduced a range of sponsored challenges designed to engage as many students as possible and raise even more money for The Christie than in previous years.
Each Year 12 and Year 13 Form took part, as well as individuals and groups of friends, all playing a vital part in the Charity Committee’s goals. From film nights, to peak climbs and Valentine’s Day merchandise sales, more students got involved and more money was raised than ever before.
The Sixth Form Show, the pinnacle of fundraising events at the school, was organised, produced and choreographed and performed by the Sixth Form students. This year’s ‘Top of the Pops’ show involved meticulous dances and costumes inspired by 80s, 90s and 00s music icons, and has been hailed as one of the best take-away memories by the Sixth Formers.
With over £15,000 raised in tickets sales and donations, £2,000 raised in the raffle, and an incredible £8,500 raised by prizes in the silent auction, the annual event was a huge success.
Louise Dawson, Community Fundraising Officer at The Christie has always cheered King’s students on in their endeavours, she said: ‘This is an amazing total, we are so grateful to the students who have done so well!’
Catching up with Annabelle before she embarks on her final A-Level exams in May, she summarised her experience as Chair of the Charity Committee and congratulated everyone on their fundraising commitments. She said:
‘It’s been the most fun, challenging and rewarding role and I am so honoured and delighted to have been given the opportunity as Charity Chair.
‘Our team is so proud of what we have achieved with the school, raising this huge total and hopefully making an impact on treatment services at The Christie. It’s been particularly special listening to one of our own members of staff describe her personal journey with the charity and to hear the positive impact it made on her.
‘On a personal level, it has given me so many opportunities and experiences. I have coordinated with teaching staff, catering staff, peers and The Christie colleagues themselves. I have made lots of new connections and learnt so much along the way, including what it takes to coordinate 125 students!
‘Thank you to everyone for taking part, showing up to endless rehearsals, taking time and initiative to raise this incredible total. It’s been amazing!’
