On Saturday 14th March 2026, The King’s School, Macclesfield proudly hosted the Myles Marshall Sevens, the largest school-run rugby sevens tournament in the UK.
The event, sponsored by Inspire Sport, brought together 72 of the top school sides from across England and Wales, with more than 860 players competing across five age groups, from Under-12 to Under-16 level. Matches were staged across three venues – King’s Derby Fields, Brocklehurst Fields and the ever-supportive Macclesfield Rugby Club – creating a vibrant and high-quality festival of rugby.
Silverware was fiercely contested throughout the day, with 10 trophies on offer across Cup and Plate competitions, reflecting both the scale and competitiveness of the tournament.
Head of Rugby, Mr Hetherington, reflected on the occasion:
“This is an event we are incredibly proud of. The Myles Marshall competition, founded under tragic circumstances in 1979, has grown significantly over the years. What began with a single age group has now expanded to five, and we have ambitions to introduce an Under-18 floodlit competition in the future. That would further establish this as the premier school sevens tournament in the country.”
There was also success on the field for King’s sides, adding to an already memorable day. The Under-12s delivered an outstanding performance to lift the Cup, while the Under-16s showed resilience and quality to secure the Plate competition.
With exceptional organisation, strong community support and a high standard of rugby throughout, the 2026 Myles Marshall Sevens once again reinforced its reputation as a standout event in the school rugby calendar.
