King’s is delighted to welcome experienced and passionate cricket coach, Mr Francis Yates, who joins the Sports Department as a full-time coach working across the Foundation.
Mr Yates was drawn to King’s by its outstanding indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as the strength of its emerging cricket talent across both girls’ and boys’ teams. King’s has consistently been ranked in the Top 100 Cricket Schools in the UK, based on performance and facilities, for the last 10 years.
A committed sportsman, Mr Yates brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, having previously worked with the Cheshire Cricket Board and Stockport Grammar School. He currently plays league cricket and has spent two seasons playing in Australia, gaining valuable international experience. Alongside cricket, he is also a regular senior football player.
Mr Yates coordinated a 30-strong student cricket tour to Dubai earlier this year and he is keen to build on this at King’s, recognising the value of independent travel and competition in developing young athletes. He is looking forward to the King’s Cricket Tour to South Africa in February 2027.
In his new role, he will coach pupils from Key Stage 2 through to U18s, leading training sessions, coordinating fixtures and supporting the development of players across all levels, as well as mentoring the King’s Elite Athlete Pathway students.
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Yates said: “Cricket is a central part of sport at King’s, it offers a fantastic opportunity to nurture both ambition and talent. I have already been impressed by the standard of play across the girls’ and boys’ teams.
“The space and facilities here at King’s are exceptional and provide a great environment for pupils to develop in on of our school’s core sports.”
Head of Cricket, Mr Stephen Moores, added: “Mr Yates brings real enthusiasm, experience and strategic insight to cricket at King’s. He will be a valuable mentor to our players, and we are confident he will make a significant contribution to the continued growth of the programme.”
