Mathematicians qualify for UKMT National Maths Finals

King's School mathematicians were jumping for joy after qualifying for UK Mathematics Association's National Final in June.

The King’s team of four pupils, two from Year 8 and two from Year 9, won the regional final of the UKMT Team Challenge and have now qualified for the National Final in London.

The pupils competed in the hotly contested regional final on Friday, hosted this year by AESG. The team performed exceptionally well and were outright winners, securing a place in the national finals in London. The four students that make up the mathematically talented team are Nidhi Garisa, Tristan Green, Maryam Atif and Alex Taylor.

Nidhi Garisa, who ultimately wants to be a computer scientist, said: "Maths is eye opening, revealing the patterns that proliferate in the natural world. It's fascinating and exciting."

King's Head of Maths, Mr Jones, said: "This competition is a very high standard and the pupils were competing against some of the best schools in the region. I am thrilled that they came away as outright winners and will now experience the national finals. This isn’t something that happens frequently and will be an amazing experience for our pupils.”
