Enjoyed by all ages, this family-friendly classic was performed by Year 7 - 9 pupils at the Macclesfield school, with King's younger drama aficionados given the opportunity to take the lead roles.
Vienne Wei as the Moana did not disappoint with a charming performance that fully realised both Moana's vulnerabilities and growing strength as she delivered memorable songs and milked every laugh with her exquisite comic-timing. Her quest to restore world balance offered not only in-depth cultural insights, but a fun-filled, rip-roaring sea born saga.
Aiden Clarke as her side-kick Maui, was brilliant as the ying to her yang, with the pair forming a superb comedy double act. While Ellie Tomlinson provided a stunning throwback to Bob Fosse, revealing some wonderful eccentricities ideal for the crab who likes to talk about herself.
It was Nicola Crooks directorial debut and played fluently to sell-out audiences in the King's stunning new Drama Studio.
King's Head of Drama, Chloe Deva, said: "Drama is continuing to grow at King's and we have added this Lower School production to our other annual productions led by older pupils. We are also delighted that we will be adding A-Level Drama & Theatre Studies to our curriculum offer, so that pupils can pursue their academic study of Drama all the way through the Seniors and Sixth Form. We are working hard to provide every pupil with an opportunity to face a live audience with a polished, professional and crafted piece of work at every stage of their journey through the school. Our pupils develop so many life skills while putting on a large-scale production, as well as lifelong memories.”
