Pupils celebrate World Book Day

On World Book Day, bestselling children's author Steve Webb told King's Infant & Junior School pupils to 'unleash the power of their imaginations.'

Talking to children dressed as their favourite characters from J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl and David Walliams among many, the author from Whaley Bridge described his own work as 'magnificently bonkers'.

The highly original writer has captivated young minds for the last two decades with his eccentric series and he is published worldwide by the literary giant Faber & Faber. His new graphic novel series Peng and Spanners is out now with more adventures to come.  His first series was the brilliantly dysfunctional Spangles McNasty.

While for very young readers he has written the fabulously silly picture book, Cows go BOO! and the rhythm and rhyme, syllable-tastic classic, Tanka Tanka Skunk.

Head of English in King's Infant & Junior Division, Soulla Costanda, said: "As always, World Book Day is a day for the children to celebrate reading and how to create imaginative stories of their own.

"The opportunity to become your favourite character or villain and to talk about the stories we love. In a world consumed with technology, to relax with a good book should be promoted and celebrated."
